The transformerless circuitry and balanced output result in high-output gain with an ultralow noise floor. The mic's uniform cardioid polar pattern provides a targeted pickup area with no off-axis coloration while handling SPLs up to 138 dB, allowing confident close-miking of instruments. As with true condenser mics, the KM 184 is powered via +48V phantom power.
