The Sony FX5 brings advanced Cinema Line capabilities to a compact and adaptable camera body. It features a newly developed 16.6MP full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR2 processor with an integrated AI processing unit.
With internal 5K Open Gate capture, 16-bit X-OCN recording, Triple Base ISO and advanced subject-recognition autofocus, the FX5 is designed for documentaries, commercials, branded content, events and independent filmmaking. Its lightweight construction and built-in stabilisation support handheld, gimbal and studio-based production.
The FX5 uses a 16.6MP full-frame stacked CMOS sensor designed for fast readout, detailed image capture and reduced rolling-shutter distortion. Its imaging system delivers natural tonal transitions, controlled highlights and flexible colour reproduction for both direct delivery and advanced post-production.
The camera supports internal 5K Open Gate capture using the sensor’s 3:2 imaging area. This provides additional room for reframing, stabilisation, visual effects and creating multiple aspect ratios from the same recording.
Internal 16-bit X-OCN preserves extensive tonal and colour information while maintaining more manageable file sizes than conventional RAW formats.

The integrated AI processing unit supports advanced recognition and tracking of people, animals and birds. The autofocus system is designed to maintain accurate focus as subjects move through the frame and to remain responsive in challenging lighting conditions.
AI-assisted automatic white balance also helps maintain consistent colour when lighting conditions change.
Triple Base ISO settings of 800, 4000 and 12,800 provide greater flexibility across controlled studio environments, mixed lighting and low-light locations.
The FX5 offers 15 stops of advertised dynamic range, extending to 16 stops in Sensor Overdrive Mode. This helps preserve highlight information while retaining detail in darker areas.
Five-axis sensor-shift stabilisation reduces unwanted movement during handheld shooting. Dynamic Active Mode adds electronic correction for smoother footage during walking shots and other mobile production scenarios.
The integrated 3.5-inch widescreen touchscreen features a four-axis adjustable design for flexible high-, low- and side-angle monitoring.

Dual hybrid memory slots accept both CFexpress Type A and SDXC UHS-II cards.
Multiple 1/4"-20 mounting points allow accessories to be attached directly to the camera body. Compatible optional accessories include the Sony XLR-H2 Handle Unit, DVF-EL1 Electronic Viewfinder and VMC-BNCU1 Timecode Adapter.
Please note that the XLR-H2 Handle Unit and DVF-EL1 Electronic Viewfinder cannot be mounted on the camera simultaneously.
