This filter functions by dispersing the incoming light through tiny irregularities, which leads to a delicate luminosity rather than the crisp, well-defined image produced without a filter. With a density level of 1/2, this filter offers more pronounced softening compared to the 1/4 density, yet not as much as the full 1 density.

Tiffen employs advanced ColorCore technology in crafting their filters, a process involving the sandwiching of the filter material between two layers of optical glass.
